Theater of Friendship

The Theater of Friendship is located in the city center at Ketziner Str. 32 in Nauen and was opened in 1955. The building was designed in the style of Socialist Classicism by H. P. Richter. It included a cinema screen, a stage, and a foyer, and was primarily used as a cinema. The main hall had a capacity of 380 seats. There was a separate small cinema café with 42 seats and a small gallery for exhibitions. In 1977, the cinema was renovated by architect V. Brandt. The admission price for a film screening during GDR times was one East German Mark; for films longer than average, it was 1.50 Marks. The owner around 1991 was Märkische Kino-Union GmbH. The operating structures changed multiple times in the following years.

Regular operations were discontinued around 1997/1998. Since then, the building has been vacant. The building has been listed as a monument in the State of Brandenburg since August 25, 1993. It is in changing private ownership. A planned renovation of the vacant building, with renewed intended use as a cinema, was prematurely halted around 2010 after renovation work had begun. The roof had to be renewed due to the risk of collapse as mandated by the monument office.
