Nature and adventure trail: Wilderness Trail

How does a wilderness grow? What does a rehydrated moor look like and what animals are to be heard there? This nature trail sets itself the task of allowing the walker to experience “wilderness development”. There are benches along the way where you can sit and take in the unspoilt surroundings. Information panels provide information on the outstanding natural areas in this region such as the Butzener Bagen, as well as the work being done by the nature foundation Stiftung Naturlandschaften Brandenburg.
This Stiftung Naturlandschaften Brandenburg nature trail is one of a total of six circular paths that are linked to the Ludwig Leichhardt Trail in loops. All of them together form the Ludwig Leichhardt Nature Trail, covering a total length of some 32 kilometres. This makes it one of the longest nature trails in Germany. Each path is dedicated to a selected aspect of the impressive and varied natural landscapes between Goyatz and Butzen.

Route description/points of interest/background information: Hikers can reach the Wilderness Trail via a newly created forest car park by Lake Rammoltsee which is linked to the L44. The path leads along Lake Bergsee, past a rehydrated moor and the Butzener Bagen, then further north as far as Lake Ziestesee. At the half-way point there is a path leading west that ends at the support threshold at the end of the Butzener Bagen at Schafbrückchen bridge. Here, the visitor can observe a fine example of a renaturation measure. The path continues past the lakes Ziestesee and Ugringsee and via the Jessersche Läuche to the starting point at Lake Rammoltsee.
It is possible to shorten this eight-kilometre route to approximately five kilometres by means of a connecting path. In the north-east the hiking trail has a connection to the Crane Path.
