This walking route is one of four walks specially set out for the 10th anniversary of the municipality of Vaals in 2021. The global Cittaslow quality mark is proof of quality for the way in which municipalities (with less than 50,000 inhabitants) deal with their living environment, landscape, regional products, hospitality, environment, infrastructure, cultural history and preservation of identity.

During the Cittaslow walks you will discover why the municipality of Vaals is Cittaslow! The Cittaslow Rond(je) Viele takes you to the green countryside around Vijlen, also known as the 'only mountain village in the Netherlands'. A large part of the route runs through wooded surroundings, where you can enjoy phenomenal views along the way (for example in Camerig), but you also pass through authentic hamlets such as Melleschet and Rott with the characteristic black and white half-timbered houses. The stately tower of the St. Martinus church of Vijlen towers high above the landscape and will therefore regularly be a landmark for you during this walk.

Along the way you will also pick up a piece of the municipality of Gulpen-Wittem (also a Cittaslow municipality) at the gravel pit in the Elzetterbosch. During the walk you will pass a number of Cittaslow ambassadors.

The Cittaslow ambassadors are companies or organizations that propagate the Cittaslow philosophy in the products they make and/or the services they offer.
