Ideal for long-distance runners is the 28-kilometer long, moderately difficult Pustertal trail. Those who prefer a more relaxed endurance training should start in Sillian, as it mostly goes downhill towards Lienz. In the opposite direction, more stamina is required. The trail, which can be used by both skaters and classic cross-country skiers, runs along the banks of the Drau for long stretches.
The entrance to the trail is located in Sillian right at the Winter-Kinderland on the south side of the railway track. The route runs eastward, always near the train line and the Drau, which is crossed several times. Passing Heinfels with its castle, Abfaltersbach, Mittewald, and Thal, the destination is reached in Leisach, a suburb of Lienz. Until shortly beyond Heinfels, the trail runs with hardly noticeable downhill, then there is a short ascent at Strassen, before it almost exclusively descends shortly thereafter.
