Chiny

The Semois sinueuse constitutes the western and southern limit of the great forest of Chiny, about 3500 ha wide. The river has carved deep into the slate floor, creating attractive viewpoints where the forest touches the Semois, for example at the Rocher de Hat, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the valley and its belt of densely forested hills.

TYPE OF ROAD
Outside the forests you walk on bitumen. But the rest of the journey usually follows dirt or base-lined forest paths and trails, which are no problem for hikers who have a good eye. But the route is inaccessible to strollers and wheelchairs. Don't expect significant elevations. It is highly recommended to put on rubber boots or other waterproof shoes during or after rainy weather.

MARKUP
Road indications abound along the route. The route refers to them when they are useful (especially the yellow diamonds lying down and the yellow rectangles with the number 8 in black) to guide you through the woods. Outside the woods street signs are sufficient.

PARKING
There is room for a small number of cars between the façade of the neoclassical church from 1829 and the tourist office (Touristinfo).

IGN 67/3-4 and 67/7-8. And then also the IGN Chiny / Florenville / Herbeumont walking map (1/25,000), but most of the new or renewed signs indicated on the map, have yet to be put in place on the ground: a job that will still take time.
