It has been years since we last walked the most popular trail in this region, the loop around the Nisramont reservoir. The first time was in 1994 and the second time in 2005. So it's time to see how much has changed. The parking lot by the dam is large and nice for parking, a good starting point for the hike. We walk the route counterclockwise: first over the dam, where we immediately take the opportunity to take some photos and enjoy the view over the lake.

From the dam, the path quickly winds along the shore, through dense forests where tall spruces and beeches create a mysterious atmosphere. Along the way, we encounter many landmarks: the original orange dots of the marking are still visible in various places, while the replacement red diamond on some trees has almost been absorbed by the trunk. The path is narrow and sometimes steep; especially in wet weather, the chance of slipping is high. Here and there, aids have been installed, but often one must stay alert - this makes the hike adventurous.

After a while, we cross a wooden bridge over a tributary of the Ourthe, an idyllic spot to pause for a moment. Then follows a tough climb up, where the path rewards us with panoramas over the winding lake and the green hills surrounding it. Later, the route descends back to the shore, with roots and rocks making the terrain challenging. Halfway, we find some resting places close to the water, ideal for a short break.

The second part of the hike takes us through alternating forests, open areas, and narrow paths along steep slopes. Here too, the old markings regularly surface, reminders of previous walks. Finally, we return toward the dam and complete the circle. After about 14 kilometers and 4.5 hours, the hike is complete: not a standard walk, but an intensive and adventurous experience full of nature, recognition, and a touch of nostalgia.
