Ettenkircher Höhenweg

From hamlet to hamlet, the circular tour on the high plateau leads through
old farmland and with constant views into the distance. The loop
to the Altweiherwiesen meadows, an extensive, nature-protected reed,
offers a delightful contrast.

You reach the first farmsteads in Furatweiler via meadow paths. Behind them, the wide view opens up to the north towards Upper Swabia: The church tower in Bavendorf on the left, Veitsburg Castle and the Mehlsack - the most striking tower of Ravensburg's town fortifications - further to the right. To the east, you can see the Schussental valley with the Allgäu Alps in the background. The following hamlets offer insights into active rural life, which is mainly characterized by fruit growing. After Lempfriedsweiler, you can look across the Ettenkirch high plateau to the magnificent Alpine panorama. The route continues into the valley of the Taldorf stream with the Altweiherwiesen nature reserve and a view of the Gehrenberg in the north-west. The forest-framed valley depression is filled with a dense stand of reeds. At the end of the last ice age, the water accumulated here and the valley became marshy. Today, the protected area is known for its extraordinary wealth of orchids. The trail now leads up to the Krehenberg, along the ridge, accompanied by the wonderful view over Wirgetswiesen, back to Ettenkirch.
