Prenzlau is the green city on the Unteruckersee. From afar, the towers of the St. Marien Church greet Prenzlaus visitors from all directions - it is the citys landmark and can be visited and climbed during the summer months. The city reached its full bloom and beauty with the State Garden Show in 2013. To this day, flower beds, show gardens, sculptures, and beautiful rest areas adorn the green cityscape around the city and lake park, the Uckerpromenade, and the city center.Start: Prenzlau Train StationDestination: St. Marien Church PrenzlauArrival / Departure: Public Transport: from Berlin Hauptbahnhof take Regional Express RE3 to PrenzlauCar: from Berlin take the A11 motorway to exit Gramzow, continue on Bundesstraße B198 to Prenzlau, Parking: at the train station or on GrabowstraßeRoute: Prenzlau Train Station, City Park, Town Hall, Lake Park, Uckerpromenade, Farmers Garden on the northern shore, Dominican Monastery with Museum and Monastery Garden, Marien Church, City CenterDirections: The tour of the various parks and gardens in Prenzlau is best explored on foot. We start at Prenzlau Train Station and head straight to City Park (Grabowstraße). In City Park, a part of the old city wall with the Powder Tower, Rope Tower, and Witch Tower is still visible. We walk south, passing a playground, skate park, goldfish pond, and rose beds directly to the Town Hall (Steintor). Behind the Town Hall lies the Lake Park with a large open-air stage, many flowerbeds, seating areas, and a vineyard. Here too, the view quickly turns to the old city wall. The Unteruckersee can already be seen glimmering through the trees. There is much to discover on the Uckerpromenade: a large playground, the lake bath with snack bar, sunny and shady seating areas, flower beds, flower borders, and of course, a panoramic view over the Unteruckersee. On the northern shore of the lake is the Farmers Garden - here, flowers bloom almost all the time. Right next to it is another playground. The path leads back towards the lake bath and to the left towards the Water Gate and along the city wall, passing the vineyard to the Dominican Monastery. The cultural center in the former Dominican Monastery houses, among other things, the Cultural History Museum with an extensive permanent exhibition on the regional history of the Uckermark. In front of the monastery stretches the Monastery Garden with numerous culinary and medicinal herbs, flowers, and various berry bushes. The monastery café invites you to coffee and cake surrounded by culture and history. Via Steinstraße, you reach the City Information Office directly on Marktberg. The colleagues not only provide information about the city but also about the entire region. Here, in addition to souvenirs, maps, and travel guides, you can also book city tours or inquire about upcoming events. From the city information office, the view sweeps over Marktberg directly to the impressive St. Marien Church with its two towers. During the summer months, the church is open for visits. Those who dare and are not afraid of heights can climb the towers to the Watchmans Room via 234 steps and look out over the city from a height of 64 meters. Church tours can also be booked at the City Information Office. If you are interested in special private gardens, you should visit the Uckermark when the Open Gardens Uckermark event opens its doors to interested visitors again. The changing dates take place twice a year - in June and September. Then you can wander through the open gardens again, gather ideas, exchange plants, or simply admire what can be done with the different garden situations. This includes, for example, the Three Crowns Garden of the Stritzel family or the garden at Hotel Wendenkönig. Some gardens, green spaces, and nurseries also open on special occasions or special dates.
