The route starts in the well-known Cochem and you follow clockwise. You will then get the following climbs along the way:
1. from Cochem-Cond to Valwig - an average of 6-7% on a quiet road. Please note: The descent is via the Valwigerberg, a very quiet and narrow, but well paved and very steep road (15%). Stop here along the way to enjoy the beautiful view of the Moselle a few times!
2. Bruttig-Fankel in the direction of Treis-Karden, after the descent you cycle through the beautiful Flaumbachtal. You are now in the Hunsrück.
3. Climb Altstrimmig on a quiet road.
4. Ascent to Grenderich, max. 12% (in the village of Grenderich), quiet road.
You cross the Moselle again at Bullay (and therefore drive from the Hunsrück back into the Eifel), over a two-layer bridge (at the top is the railway, the lower layer is for car traffic).
5. Reiler neck (4-6%),
6. Kondelwald (Bonsbeuren) - a tricky one (max 14%) but nice climb on a very quiet road (the road was repaved in 2021). The descent from Bonsbeuren to Bad Bertrich has moderate asphalt (August 2021) and sometimes very steep hairpin bends. The center of Bad Bertrich is closed to car traffic, but cyclists are allowed to pass through the center.
7. Bad Bertrich - Beuren (max. 11%) on a quiet street.
The descent takes you back to the Moselle valley, to the village of Bremm (the most beautiful village in Rhineland-Palatinate). Here you take the Moselle cycle path to avoid the busy main road in the Moselle valley. You can also enjoy the very steep and rocky left bank of the Moselle.
8. Hundskopf or Ellerberg (Eller - Golf Resort) - max. 17%, very quiet street, as the road near the golf resort (holiday park) is closed with a barrier (but you can drive around it).
The Moselle cycle path is used to bypass the busy federal roads in the Moselle valley and is paved everywhere (asphalt or tiles). Between Merl and Bullay, the cycle path is tiled, but bumpy because tree roots push the tiles upwards.
