The Groenmarktkerk is the usual designation for the Sint-Antoniuskerk on the Nieuwe Groenmarkt in Haarlem. It is the second oldest currently existing Roman Catholic church in Haarlem. The church was built in 1843 and 1844. The patron of the church is Saint Anthony of Padua. The church was designed by the Flemish architect Tieleman Franciscus Suys, who also built the Moses and Aaron Church in Amsterdam. The style is neoclassical with a baroque influence. The then Ministry of Religious Affairs imposed a requirement that this church should accommodate 2000 people. Due to this requirement, the original building plan was modified. The facade was widened with bare brick and the interior with a gallery, so the building eventually transformed from a single-nave to a three-nave church. The second gallery was finally added in 1854.
