Zichem is of course well-known as the village where 'De Witte' carried out his mischief. You can visit the birthplace of Ernest Claes, the author of among others, the Witte of Zichem.
Among the other sights of this Orange city is the beautiful St. Eustachius Church in Demer Gothic style. This magnificent church probably possesses the oldest stained glass window in Belgium (1387).
On the banks of the Demer, you can discover a very different monument: the Maiden Tower. This unique round keep, built with the typical reddish-brown iron sandstone from the area, dates back to the 14th century. This tower served as a residence and defensive tower for the Lords of Zichem.
