With this junction cycling route, you can still enjoy the landscape without a high-voltage line. But you shouldn’t wait too long. In 2022, it was decided that a high-voltage line will be built along this route, the Ventilation Route, in the future. Ventilus is a planned high-voltage line that the Belgian transmission system operator Elia wants to build between Zeebrugge and Avelgem. The high-voltage line is supposed to transport the growing electricity generation from the wind farms in the North Sea to the inland. The proposed solution is an overhead high-voltage line that will largely be built along the A17 (E403) motorway. But this route along cycling junctions winds you through the landscape near the planned high-voltage line. The file caused quite a bit of local protest and issues within the Flemish Government in 2022.
