The train step Halle - Buizingen: a picturesque adventure through the enchanting landscape of the Zenne Valley, specially designed for the young explorers among us!
Our journey begins at the Buizingen station, a district of Halle with ample parking available. Every half hour, a train takes us effortlessly to the heart of Halle for just 2.5 euros per passenger. Extra tip: up to 4 children under 12 travel for free with a passenger holding a valid ticket!
From the enchanting Halle station, we cross the Brussels-Charleroi canal and head towards our first adventurous stop: a captivating terrace along the banks of the Zenne, wrapped in the mystical atmosphere of Albert Park. Along the way, we quickly notice the influence of the recent rain showers on the Zenne, which stands high and proud. Note: during high water, it is a no-go to descend via the stairs to the stepping stones in the river - the Zenne can turn into a true white-water river.
If you want to add a little extra magic to your journey, you can choose to wander to the beautiful Grote Markt of Halle, where the statue of Servais, the 19th-century cellist and composer, and the impressive St. Martin's Basilica await you.
But the adventure does not wait! Before we cross the Brussels-Charleroi canal again, we make a small detour to a second terrace with stepping stones, hidden in the charming Leide Park.
We leave the vibrant city center of Halle and traverse meadows and fields towards the Beukenbos, Kluisbos, or Buizingenbos. Here begins the play forest, created from the children's sanatorium 'Baronne Lucie Lambert' from 1927. We wander through the rolling paths, looking for the most challenging trails that the forest has to offer.
From the enchanting Beukenbos, car-free streets lead us to the church without a tower or the St. Vincent's Church of Buizingen. Here, a pedestrian bridge provides an easy crossing over a railway line to the Zenne path. Prepare for challenges, as the Zenne shows her adventurous side. The path can be slippery, sometimes even flooded, and the stepping stones of the third Zenne terrace are inaccessible today. But fear not, here you can still enjoy wall drawings on the graffiti-rich ruins of Eizingen-Molensite (an old watermill of a weaving factory) and discover an adventurous multimovepad.
From this historic molensite, it is only a short path of 500 meters to return to the Buizingen station. Let this adventure enchant you, and you will return with heartwarming memories of the treasures that the Zenne Valley has to offer!
