This route leads through the gentle landscape of the Leiestreek. The Leie, also known as the "Golden River," forms the central axis. At that time, large quantities of quality flax were cleared along this river. Old farms and dilapidated factory buildings remind one of the flourishing flax silk industry. You traverse the landscape with moist meadows and rows of pollard willows along towpaths and footpaths. On your way back, you pass the historic border village of Rekkem.
