Genk Thorpark

Thorpark is an area of 10 km² behind the former Waterschei coal mine. The area has so many qualities that it will connect to the national park. Here you will find everything that Hoge Kempen has to offer: stone hills amidst heath and pine forests, a beautiful creek valley, juniper, and sand dunes. Some distinctive buildings enrich the landscape: the children's settlement of As and the coal mine of Waterschei (Thor Central). You can already hike extensively there, but a gate in the well-known style of the other gates does not (yet) exist.

Thor Central will in the future serve as a gateway. Currently, however, you can visit this building, which serves as an event center, informally, take a guided tour, or enjoy a snack or drink in a beautiful historical setting. Thor Central is also the vibrant heart of a growing business and science park, where technology, research, energy, and innovation are at the center.
