Les Hayons - the pierced rock

This marked walk (red rectangle, no. 21) starts at the church in the village of Les Hayons. With our backs to the church, we walk left out of the village. Upon leaving the village, we pass by a special museum: La Ferme des Fées, where fairies depict the daily life of yesteryear. Definitely worth a visit.

We continue along the road and soon arrive at the viewpoint Mont de Zatrou with a view of the Semois and the Hultai plain.

The walk then descends further before reaching the next impressive viewpoint “Le Saut des Sorcières“, or witches' jump, via a steep forest path on the left side of the road.

After having stood on the flat rock for a moment, which, according to legend—and as the name suggests—served as a springboard for witches, we descend via a beautiful, sometimes quite steep path to the campsite “Le Maka”, where the ruisseau des Aleines flows into the Semois.

The walk now goes along a gravel road to some chalets. At a sign indicating the path through the meadows of La Vanette, we turn left. We now walk along the bank of the Semois, and in the distance, we can already see “la Roche Percée”.

After passing through the rocks, the walk continues along the Semois through some brush and a meadow to reach a wider forest road. After crossing the stream ‘Ruisseau des Gorges’, we turn right and the road steadily climbs back to the village and the starting point.
