Valais Panorama Bike Mountainbike in Sion/Sitten

The Valais Panorama Bike route leads from Sion to Visp, a model of incredibly contrasting views: the route traverses vineyards and climbs mountain slopes to ski resorts. Then it alternates between major tourist destinations and tiny, tranquil mountain villages. In between you will discover picturesque alpine meadows, cool mountain streams and idyllic trails. The route can be easily combined with the Valais Alpine Bike route.
You rapidly gain height cycling up sunny slopes through the Sion vineyards and soon enjoy the first stunning views over the wide Rhone Valley. High above the busy valley floor you pass through the famous tourist resorts of Anzère and Crans-Montana, heading east. The route often climbs over 1,000m above the Rhone en route to the French-German language border. On the opposite side of the Rhone valley, the famous 4,000m peaks of Valais appear as if placed on a silver platter – an impressive sight. After reaching the language border at Leuk, you change to the other side of the valley. The aerial cableway ride from Turtmann to Unterems takes the effort out of part of the long ascent to the Eischoll, Unterbäch and Bürchen ski regions. Opposite, the Bietschhorn comes ever more into view, its sharp peak towering into the sky. The Vispertal opens up in Zeneggen, high above Visp. This is not only the valley entrance to Zermatt and Saas Fee, the most famous tourist resorts in the Valais, but also the driest region in the whole of Switzerland.
Down in the Rhone valley you pass the village of Turtmann, which is part of the villages of national importance. Make an excursion to the 42m high waterfall which is easy accessible behind the cable car Turtmann-Oberems. 
Direct lines from Basel, Bern, Geneva airport, Lausanne and Zurich airport to Sion every 30 minutes. 
Access via the motorway A9. If you arrive from East, take the exit 27 (Sion-Est) and follow the signs to Sion train station. Arriving from Martigny, take the exit 26 (Sion-Ouest).

We recommend: bike in excellent working order, helmet, gloves and bell, clothing suitable for the weather (always carry a waterproof), food and drink.
