Sony Center

The Sony Center is a multifunctional building in the center of Berlin. The complex at Potsdamer Platz houses offices, shops, and restaurants.

Berlin is a city with a clear historical background, but also with a modern vision for the future. The Sony Center is seen by many as one of the highlights of that modern vision. The building not only has a modern appearance, but its construction is also a bold piece of engineering. In particular, the roof of this structure attracts a lot of attention due to its fascinating design. The complex is made up of seven different buildings: the European headquarters of Sony Corporation, the Forum, the headquarters of the German railways, Filmhaus, Esplanade Residence, a corporate tower on Bellevuestraße, and a corporate tower at the Philharmonie.

Construction of the complex began in late 1995/early 1996. It was built by Hochtief. In 2000, the complex was completed. It has a total lot area of 26,500 m², with floor space around 132,500 m².

The design of the Sony Center comes from the architectural firm Murphy/Jahn from Chicago. The key figure behind this firm is Helmut Jahn.
