Rabenstein/Fläming is located in the upper valley of the Plane and in its source area.
In the municipality, which is entirely within the Hoher Fläming Nature Park, there are several nature reserves.
The current districts of the municipality belonged to the Zauch-Belzig district in the Prussian province of Brandenburg since 1817 and from 1952 to the Belzig district in the GDR district of Potsdam. Since 1993, they have been in the Brandenburg district of Potsdam-Mittelmark.
