The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Catherine is a landmark of the titular town of Blankenberg near Hennef.
The start of construction can be dated to the year 1245; In the year of the granting of town rights to Blankenberg, Count Heinrich III von Sayn and his wife, Countess Mechthild von Meißen-Landsberg, founded a Premonstratensian convent within the city walls, which was occupied by Cistercian nuns soon after its foundation. The monastery church was elevated to an independent parish church in 1248, probably after its completion. The monastery was moved to Zissendorf in 1265, and the right of collation to the parish church remained with the abbess until the 16th century.
