Leuenberg to Strausberg Stadt on the 66 lakes hiking trail (stage 7A)

The stage is the continuation of the hike through the Gamengrund, which begins in the north with the southern Gamensee and in the south merges into the Strausberg Lakes area. Although more than 20 kilometers of this route run through the forest, the hike is very varied: the forest is constantly changing its character, you pass numerous lakes, hike ten kilometers on riverside paths that open up a view of the respective body of water in many places.

Arrival by public transport: From Berlin main station with the S5 (Strausberg) to Berlin Ostkreuz, then continue with the RB25 (Werneuchen) to Werneuchen, then continue with the bus 887 (Bad Freienwalde) to Leuenberg (approx. 1.5 hours)

Departure public transport: From Strausberg with the S5 (Berlin Westkreuz) to Berlin Hauptbahnhof (approx. 1 hour)

How to get there / Worth knowing: From Leuenberg the route continues through the Gamengrund. First of all you pass the chain of lakes Langer Haussee, Mittelsee and southern Gamensee. We continue towards Wesendahl. Shortly after the Wesendahler Mühle you come to the Fängersee and the Bötzsee on to Strausberg. In Strausberg you can decide which route to take. Either you hike directly to Strausberg and thus east past the southern tip of the Straussee, or you take the western route along the Straussee and use the Straussee ferry. The ferry is the only passenger cable ferry operated in Europe with an electrical overhead line.
