Herford and the Northeast - Forest and Panorama (Day Trip HF8)

This very entertaining circular route leads through the diverse landscape in the north and east of Herford, passing through the spa park and historic old town of Bad Salzuflen. Starting from Herford, the route initially heads north along the Werreaue on a road-side cycle path to Schweicheln-Bermbeck, before turning east towards Eggeberg. Even during the ascent, there are constantly changing views of the hilly landscape. Once you reach the summit, you will be rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view all the way to Bad Oeynhausen on one side and Herford on the other. A rest area invites you to catch your breath here before descending into the Salzetal valley. Upon arrival, the mini golf course and beer garden of the excursion restaurant "Zur Loose" offer a place to pause. The journey continues through the Salzetal to the spa park in Bad Salzuflen. The historic old town with its numerous half-timbered houses then invites you to stroll through the pedestrian zone. Afterwards, you will ride along the Werre back to the starting point in Herford.
The tour mainly follows independent or road-side cycle paths as well as asphalted farm roads with minimal car traffic. Only a total of 1.4 km of the route is on roads with traffic.
As alternative starting points, the train station in Bad Salzuflen or the hiking car park at the restaurant "Zur Loose" are recommended. The train station in Bad Salzuflen can be reached from Herford, Detmold, and Lage by Westfalenbahn. Limited bicycle carriage is possible.
