Discovery loop Haan Gruiten-South

The hike starts at Gruiten train station and initially leads uphill to the Technologiepark, the most modern industrial estate in Haan, which impresses with modern architecture as well as green recreational areas. Through Kriekhausen, one of the oldest Haan farm settlements, the route continues onto a field path on the other side of the highway.

A narrow path now leads through the picturesque valley of the Hühnerbach, which at 7,151 meters is the longest Haan stream. Shortly afterwards, the city center of Haan is reached. Diverse shops and dining options invite you to take a relaxing break.

Via Ellscheider Straße, passing by Horstmannsmühle, where a gallery with arts and crafts offerings is located. Passing by Oben Klophausen on field paths opens up a magnificent view.

A stop at the Gut Ellscheid farm shop in Ellscheid is worthwhile before continuing along Ellscheider Strasse to Elp, a small farm settlement. Now the hiking route opens up again, offering a magnificent view towards Erkrath.

The observatory, where stargazing is possible, appears to the left of the hiking route. Continuing on to Frinzberg and downhill into the Lindenbecker Bachtal, the path now intersects with the Discovery Loop Limestone Traces, providing a brief insight into the era of limestone mining in this region.

Upon reaching the starting point, a leisurely stroll through Bahnstraße with its nice, owner-operated shops is recommended.
