It is one of the oldest gates in the city. The date of the first construction is not known, the first mention is 1310.
An elegant example of a pillared gate, built in 1782 to replace the older gate. The name is derived from the presence of the road that branched off from here and led through the northern countryside to Carini .
The appearance of the 18th century gate followed the fashion of the time: it consists of two pillars, decorated with rustic pilasters , surmounted by a cornice and closed at the top by stone vases.
