Kamphaeng Saen is an ancient town located in Thung Kwang sub-district of Nakhon Pathom and dates back to the Dvaravati period (6th - 11th C). Archaeological excavation conducted in 2009-10, revealed that the site was established during the transition to the Dvaravati period (c. 5th or 6th century). It was located between the Dvaravati centers of Nakhon Chaisi and U-Thong and probably constructed along a trading route. It is believed be as old as Mueang Nakhon Chaisi, but smaller in size. The reason of its decline is not clear. Dvaravati Buddhist religious structures were located outside of the town enclosure as testified by the find of bricks, stone and stucco sculptural fragments scattered across an area 50-300 m east of the fortified area. The moated Dvaravati settlement of Kamphaeng Saen is 52 ha large and has still its original moats and earthen dikes. Within the area are small earthen mounds, ponds, and large trees.
