Mueang Phra Rot

Mueang Phra Rot was an ancient town dating back to the Dvaravati era at Na Phra That of Phanat Nikhom District in Chon Buri Province near the mouth of the Bang Pakong River. The town had an irregular rectangular plan covering 1500 by 750 meters and was surrounded by a moat and double earthen ramparts. Excavations revealed evidence of Dvaravati occupation from the 7th to the 11th centuries, with imported Tang and Song ceramics and early Islamic turquoise-blue glazed earthenware jars from lower Mesopotamia or Iran. The town was linked by a land and water route to Mueang Sri Phalo and Mueang Phaya Rae, two other Dvaravati sites in the province. Via local waterways, there was access to the Gulf of Thailand.
