De Ruhrhaldenweg is een 580 km lange lange-afstands-wandellus die de terrils, tuinwijken en voormalige mijnen van de Ruhrmetropool met elkaar verbindt. Een keten van voetwegels, jaagpaden, kleine en grote straten, omgebouwde spoorlijnen en terrilpaden voert je door het hele Ruhrgebiet, van Moers en Duisburg in het westen tot Dortmund en Bergkamen in het oosten.
Deze achttiende etappe trekt door het stadspark van Wanne naar de voormalige mijn Pluto-Wilhelm, waarna we de gelijknamige terril beklimmen voor een prachtig 360° zicht over het Ruhrgebied. We steken het Rhein-Herne-kanaal over (hier kan je zwemmen!) en beklimmen dan de Hoppenbruch terril. We doorkruisen het schitterend gerestaureerde complex van de Ewald-mijn en klimmen dan naar de top van één van de hoogste terrils van de streek (153 m). De panorama's onderweg zijn weergaloos. Langs de voormalige mijn van Recklinghausen bereiken we het station van Recklinghausen-Süd.

The Ruhrhaldenweg is a 580 km long long-distance hiking loop that connects the slag heaps, garden cities and former mines of the Ruhr metropolis. A chain of footpaths, towpaths, small and large streets, converted railway lines and slag heap paths takes you through the entire Ruhrgebiet, from Moers and Duisburg in the west to Dortmund and Bergkamen in the east.
This eighteenth section leads through the town park of Wanne to the former mine Pluto-Wilhelm, after which we climb the slagheap of the same name to enjoy a magnificent 360° view of the Ruhr area. We cross the Rhein-Herne canal (you can swim here!) and then climb the Hoppenbruch slagheap. We cross the beautifully restored complex of the Ewald mine and then climb to the top of one of the highest slag heaps in the region (153 m). The panoramic views along the way are incomparable. Along the former mine of Recklinghausen we reach the station of Recklinghausen-Süd.
