Knoten Voralpenkreuz

The Voralpenkreuz interchange is a highway interchange that connects the Austrian highways West Autobahn, Innkreis Autobahn, and Pyhrn Autobahn. It is located in the Upper Austrian district of Wels-Land in the municipality of Sattledt. The interchange crosses the A1 Vienna–Salzburg running northeast-southwest with the north-south A8/A9. The northern route is the Welser Westspange, which is considered part of the Innkreis Autobahn leading to Passau. The southbound route A9 is the highway to Graz and further to Spielfeld. This makes the Voralpenkreuz the central junction of the most important Austrian west-east transit route with the southeasternmost Alpine transversal. Since traffic flows from Western Europe to Southeastern Europe have shifted from the route through Slovenia to the better developed and less steep route via Budapest with the EU eastern enlargement, the interchange has lost significance; the A8–A25–A1 route has had a higher traffic volume than the Voralpenkreuz overall for several years.
