This chapel, built in the 19th century in the Gothic style, is linked to the legend of Mary, a young woman from the area who decided to live as a recluse. One day, while walking through the Lindthout woods, she crosses paths with a rich lord who made advances to her, which she refused. Hurt by this rejection, the lord had her falsely accused of theft in the hope of making her give in... albeit without success. Enraged, he had her convicted of theft, vagrancy and witchcraft. The sentence was final and ruthless: Marie was to be buried alive. As miracles occurred at the place of her execution, a chapel was built there in her honour, which became a pilgrimage destination. Inside the chapel there is a triptych, the central part of which depicts Our Lady of Sorrows, the patron saint of the building, while the side panels illustrate six episodes from the life of Mary, known as Mary the Miserable.
