Bosgat is a terrace-shaped viewpoint with beautiful panorama over the Flemish Ardennes: stunning views over the Maarkebeek Valley, the Bossenaarmill and even the Forest of musique. The binoculars available since March 2012 can be used free of charge and can be adapted to your own visual acuity.
There is also a picnic table.
Immediately left is a narrow path leading to Forrest Ter Rice.
About three million years ago, this region was the location of a shallow and tropical sea.
The coastline lay at the present language border. In that period, Flanders was completely underwater. The sands that were collected then are called the sands of Diest. These sands contain a lot of iron. When the sea withdrew, these sandbanks were exposed to weathering and later erosion. What followed was the formation of a hilly landscape that nowadays serves as a natural border between Flanders and Wallonia. These hills are often called witness hills because they bear witness to a distant past. Some of these witness mounds are the Kluisberg, Hotondberg and Muziekberg.
