Very old settlement, of which the avenue and double rampart testify, that was already mentioned in the Ghent aldermen's registers in 1398. This castle, also known as Triomphe Castle (in the deed of 1771 “Triomphe Castle in its double walls), is located in a luxurious garden with a Japanese walnut along Sint-Gerolfstraat. Although more modest in size, its surroundings evoke the atmosphere of the Loire castles. Little is known about its history, but traces can be found in writings dating back to 1398. The current facade dates from 1852. The causeway that provides access to the estate evokes memories of the former rampart. Originally double-walled, the moat in front of the castle was filled in 1956. The castle was inhabited during the last century by several mayors of Drongen. The estate included a rental property. To the left of the castle stands a large service building that now serves a different function (architectural firm). The castle is accessible via two entrances: through Sint-Gerolfstraat and through Varendrieskouter.
