Gompel - Glaverbel - AGC - Casino

Just before the bridge over the Dessel-Kwaadmechelen canal, the fireplace of the late Glaverbel appears.

Today better known as AGC Kempenglas. Take a moment to drive slowly by. On the left of the road you will discover the original building.

If you come home tonight after a wonderful Kempen ride and have a somewhat older house with the original double glazing, you should take a look at the inside of the glass edge. You may find the name "Thermopan" there. If that is the case, you can almost be sure that the glass – with a 20-year warranty at the time – was made in the old Glaverbel factory.

If you have time, you can stop on the right in the street opposite the building.

There you will discover a current yard under restoration: the Casino of Gompel. The building was commissioned by the glass factory in 1925 as a factory hotel to accommodate the many specialized Walloon workers. We could refer to these "specialized workers" today as engineers and executives. The workers of the factory lived in the small houses around the factory. All in all, it was the Glaverbel site.

This building was sold a few years ago. With the support of the municipality, it is now being restored by volunteers. The aim is to restore the building to its former glory and turn it into a meeting centre, with cafeteria and meeting rooms.
