Roeselare cycling stories

Roeselare is fertile ground for 
cycling talent. Home to Belgium’s first-ever Tour winner 
(Odiel Defraeye, 1912), four world champions 
in cycling, the start of Dwars door Vlaanderen, 
the finish of the Grote Prijs Jean-Pierre Monseré, a 
Natourcriterium, the KOERS museum, 
murals and statues of cycling heroes, 
and the Defraeye-Sercu outdoor cycling track, 
Roeselare is a true cycling city in cycling-mad Flanders.

Important information before you start
This signposted cycling route is divided into two 
loops: a northern and a southern loop. The total distance 
of both loops combined is 35 kilometres. 
You can also cycle the loops separately.

Cycling Heroes Route

The southern loop is a brand-new 
route that takes you past 
Roeselare’s cycling heritage, both 
past and present. You’ll discover 
not only Roeselare’s cycling heroes 
of yesteryear, but also how Roeselare’s 
training programmes and development teams 
help nurture cycling talent.
