Nature reserve Doeveren with its forest, heathland, grasslands, and beautiful driveways for walking, unfortunately bisected by the E403. In the grasslands, you can admire the Galloway cattle with their curly coats. Via bridges and gates, one moves from one plot to another. We also pass by the Merkemveld domain and the Baasveld domain. This GPS walk is a combination of three walks: Doeveren walking path by Westtoer (5.7 km), the Green walk by Natuurpunt (3.2 km), and the Red walk by Natuurpunt (2.2 km). We depart from the side street Rijselsestraat 192 (GPS setting Zedelgem) where there is ample parking. You can easily follow the route with the signs. We first followed the green walk and then, at the height of the parking lot, the Doeveren walking path by Westtoer with its rectangular signs and then the red walk from Natuurpunt. The red walk is on the other side of the highway. Here you can choose to go up via the embankment and back down on the other side (about 200 meters one way) or drive via the road to the other side to park (about 1.1 km one way). As an extra, after 5 km you can briefly leave the route, 50 meters there and back, to visit the ice cellar, a place now used as a roost for bats.
