Once you stood in the nature reserve "De Oude Schelde" in the middle of the Schelde. The Oude Schelde Appels originated because the Schelde was straightened in the 19th century. After years of land reclamation, open water was re-established in 2002 by the Agency for Nature and Forests East Flanders. This junction walk takes you along the old Schelde arm and the Scheldedijk in Appels, a part of Dendermonde.
This path has almost everything a walking path needs these days: a lot of greenery, a lot of variety, and two sections of boardwalk. The ferry you need to cross the Oude Schelde completes the experience.
