The Rupertsberg Monastery was a Benedictine monastery in Bingen am Rhein. It was located on the Rupertsberg on the left side of the mouth of the Nahe River into the Rhine.
The famous German mystic Hildegard of Bingen left the Disibodenberg Monastery near Odernheim am Glan around 1150 with 20 other nuns to establish her own monastery over the grave of Saint Rupert. The Rupertsberg had a favorable location due to the transport routes along the Rhine and Nahe, and after an old chapel initially served as the monastic church, a new monastic complex gradually emerged. The three-aisled monastery church was consecrated in 1152 by Archbishop Henry of Mainz. Around this time, Hildegard's first work, Liber Scivias, was already gaining great recognition. Most of her works were created on the Rupertsberg. In the monastery's scriptorium, they were extensively copied and then distributed throughout Europe.
