The Kalksee is a body of water in the south of Rüdersdorf in the Märkisch-Oderland district, east of Berlin. The name derives from the proximity to the unique limestone deposit in the Brandenburg region, known as Rüdersdorf. It is part of the federal waterway Rüdersdorfer Gewässer with a waterway class III, overseen by the Wasser- und Schifffahrtsamt Berlin. The Kalksee is used for swimming, water sports, and as a transportation route. The lake borders Woltersdorf to the south and west, and Rüdersdorf to the north and east.
At the beginning of the 20th century, when primarily city dwellers began to discover swimming and bathing in open waters, a large outdoor bathing facility was established on the eastern shore of the Kalksee. This consisted of a non-swimmer pool and a swimmer area marked by buoys, which could only be used "at your own risk." Two large diving towers on the separating walkways were popular among visitors. - The bathing facility was later removed. However, after numerous redesigns, a beach pool still exists.
