The Baumgartenbrücke is a road bridge that carries Bundesstraße 1 between Geltow and Petzow over the Potsdamer Havel.
Before the first bridge was built, there was a ford, then only a ferry connection over the Havel. The "Great Elector" Frederick William had a 120-metre-long wooden bridge built in 1676. It had a device to open the central section to allow the passage of ships. During the reign of the soldier king Frederick William I, there was a customs office and guard post on the east side to prevent Prussian soldiers from deserting to the Electorate of Saxony, which included the nearby villages of Klaistow, Kanin, and Busendorf. The expansion of the city of Berlin allowed the customs post to increase its income due to the increase in maritime traffic, which brought bricks from Petzow, Glindow and Rathenow to the residential city and crossed the customs border here. Theodor Fontane dedicated a story to Baumgartenbrück.
