The farming community of Lutum, belonging to the town of Billerbeck, is located in the Münsterland region amidst the Baumberge hills.
The first historical mention of Lutum dates back to the early 11th century. At that time, the settlement was called Lutenhem. The name known today likely arose from changes in pronunciation.
Lutum was part of the parish of Kirchspiel Billerbeck. On July 1, 1969, it was incorporated into the town of Billerbeck.
