Nature Park Trail Bielefeld 5: Geology - Quarries as Witnesses of Time

With the "NatureTimeTravel" on six selected hiking trails in the Teutoburg Forest near Bielefeld, the dimension "time" with its diverse facets in the nature and cultural landscape becomes tangible for nature and hiking enthusiasts.
The "time" includes the history of the landscape, how it has been shaped and influenced by the people living here for centuries, but also the natural cycle of plants and animals in the seasons and in their life stages. This also includes the "eventful" history of the Earth, which created the Teutoburg Forest about 70 million years ago.
Themes are assigned to the trails, which are highlighted by "time windows" and "witnesses" during the hike. Thus, the defining theme of circular trail 1 is the still recognizable impact of historical forest use by humans. Trails 2 and 3 focus on the seasons in the beech forest. The traces of often hidden signs of human life can be explored on trail 4, and trails 5 and 6 show what possibilities earth history has created for vegetation through the shaping of different geological formations and what consequences this has for local biodiversity.
