At Ardgour, Loch Linnhe has lost much of its width. A bridge could have been built, but no, the Scots want to retain their island character and maintain the tradition of ferries. The Corran Ferry (cost: £2.9 million) went into service in 2001 and intends to continue its task for many years. The previous company, Rosehaugh, lasted for 32 years. The detour to Fort William is possible, but it takes a lot of time. That’s why the Scots are continually queuing.
The lake here is very shallow. In the days when animals could still talk and there was no shuttle, cows were forced to cross the water to reach the livestock market.
Whether by chance or not, near the pier there is one of the most famous pubs in Scotland, which makes the wait less tedious. The pub has a terrace and you can spend the night there.
