Genoa is not known for its famous people. Christopher Columbus would be born here, but even that is not certain. Another celebrity is Paganini. Niccolò Paganini was born on October 27, 1782. He was an Italian violinist and composer whose virtuosity on his instrument has become legendary. Many people believed that Paganini was a "devil violinist". He would have sold his soul to the devil in order to play with such virtuosity. Paganini strengthened the legend around his person by playing for the dead during the night in cemeteries. He also had the habit to paint his face white. A mysterious disease caused even more mystification surrounding his person. It is assumed that he was suffering from the syndrome of Ehlers-Danlos or Marfan's syndrome. The very long fingers (arachnodactyly) and the elastic connective tissue enabled him to its extreme virtuosity on the violin. What is remarkable is that there is no museum or statue for this musical legend and son of Genoa in Genoa. Paganini is known for his violin playing, but he preferred to play guitar. He's still an idol to many metal guitarists.
