According to historical sources , a watercourse crossed Piazza Ciullo in 1500 .
The bank of the stream was very suitable for the construction of new churches. It started with the Church of Sant'Oliva in 1533, then the Church of the Holy Family (after 1650), the Collegio of Chiesa del Gesù (1684) and the former Church of Santa Maria dello Stellario (built in 1605, demolished in 1962). ). The current square was created by merging the graveyards of three churches.
The square is named after the great poet Ciullo d'Alcamo.
On the square you can admire the imposing facade, in Baroque style, of the Church of the Gesù with a large round bell in the upper part, next to it the architectural complex of the former Jesuit College and then the Church of the Holy Family , the Palazzo Comunale and the church of Sant'Oliva founded in 1533 and rebuilt in 1723. Directly opposite the town hall is the Palazzo Liberty , where the post office was once located.
