Hotel-Restaurant Vijlerhof is located in the former management house of the ENCI (First Dutch Cement Industry).
This large factory was active in Vijlen at the turn of the century and was located at the bottom of the valley behind the hotel. Some remnants of this industrial heritage can still be seen today. Here is also an iBeaken point from HeuvellandMobi with more information and old photos.
Inside the hotel you can see a letter written by the son of the director of the factory.
He was not happy at all in Vijlen and writes that there are no beer and no beautiful girls to be seen in Vijlen.
The bottle in which the letter was stored was found during the expansion of the hotel in the 1980s.
Now Hotel-Restaurant Vijlerhof is a fresh company that tries to preserve the nostalgic and traditional, linked to the demands of modern times. All rooms have been renovated and equipped with a new bathroom, new beds and a flat screen HD TV.
