Erehof Lemmer

Erehof Lemmer is part of the general cemetery in Lemmer in the province of Friesland. There are 44 Allied soldiers buried who fell in World War II:
On April 10, 1941, a Wellington bomber, the W5375 from the 12th Squadron, was detected by enemy radar stationed in Medemblik. A night fighter was sent out, the bomber was hit and crashed into the IJsselmeer. The entire crew perished. The body of the commander, V.Q. Blackden, washed up on the dyke of the under-construction Northeast Polder. He was buried here, along with the observer J.D.V. Broughton. Two crew members, the radio operator and tail gunner D. McDougall and the radio operator and tail gunner G.H. Bishop were buried in Urk and later transferred to the honour cemetery in Oud-Leusden on July 18, 1947. The tail gunner H. Marshall is buried at the honour cemetery in Harderwijk. The pilot J.H.A. Bond was buried at the honour cemetery in Bergen.
