The Sint-Gertrudiskerk is the former parish church of Heerle. It is located at Herelsestraat 100.
Heerle initially belonged to the parish of Bergen op Zoom, but in 1307 permission was granted by the Prince-Bishopric of Liège to install a baptistery and eventually become an independent parish. Until 1648, the right of patronage was in the hands of the chapter of the Sint-Gertrudiskerk in Bergen op Zoom. The parish experienced quite a few difficulties in the time leading up to the Reformation. In 1648 the church came to the Protestants and was not returned to the Catholics until 1800. In the meantime, they sometimes had their own barn church, but usually the parish in Wouw represented the interests of the faithful. Heerle had the status of a station. It was not until 1833 that Heerle became an independent parish again.
