The municipal services of Middelkerke were always located in the rectory until World War I. However, when this building was destroyed during WW I, a decision was made to construct a separate building for this purpose. This happened in 1924, and the design was drawn up by architect Van Damme. It became an eclectic design, so elements of various historical architectural styles can be recognized. For example, benches have been incorporated into niches in the side walls of the entrance hall, just as was the custom in medieval castles. The windows on the ground floor still show influence from Art Nouveau, and the council chamber on the upper floor is adorned in Neorenaissance style.
Recently, historical posters have been hung in the hallways of the town hall, which were once printed in the city for occasions such as exhibitions, flea markets, balls...
If you are interested in coastal posters, be sure to visit the Kusthistories museum!
