Pedestrian and bike bridge over the Leie

On the banks along the Leie between Deinze and Wervik, at least 13 experience zones will be created where people can fully enjoy the river and the region. This is an initiative that fits within the upgrading of the Leie axis. It is part of the Seine-Schelde Flanders project of De Vlaamse Waterweg nv and is supported by the European Union. Seven experience points will have the same style and will be collectively named roothoek. Various partners are committed to further developing the experience of the Leie area together.

• In Machelen-aan-de-Leie, the experience point Roothoek art village will be created. This strengthens the connection between the Leie and the art village.
• In Zulte, a new pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the Leie will be built. This restores the historical connection between the center of Zulte and the beautiful surroundings of Kasteel Te Lake. Additionally, the cycling and walking options in this area, which is already widely used by cyclists and walkers for both recreational and functional purposes, will increase. The bridge will feature a viewpoint on the side of Kasteel Te Lake. This viewpoint will consist of a concrete platform and will be equipped with benches and a bike rack. There will be stairs on the outside that provide direct access to the avenue leading to the castle.
