Elen - yellow - 7.0 km

You start your walk at the church in Elen. From there, you get to know the rural character of this cozy Maas village. Here, you'll still find a number of typical Maasland farms. The fields and plots with numerous small landscape elements provide the backdrop for this relaxing walk.
Once you've crossed the main road, you will gradually see the landscape change. Here, you will also discover Castle Sipernau, which has been mentioned since the 8th century (when it was a farm). The castle is privately owned, but you can visit the chapel of Saint Rita. Be sure to take a look; the interior is truly beautiful.
Finally, the walk also takes you to De Broeken, a special nature reserve that emerged from peat extraction. In this nature area, you will encounter a very varied plant growth. The alternation between deep and shallow water allows marsh plants to thrive alongside heather. Various bird species also enjoy this area, such as the coot, the blue heron, and the cuckoo. A birdwatching hut gives bird watchers the chance to admire these unique species, but from the boardwalk, you will also be able to see quite a lot.
