This walk will certainly bring you into a cozy vacation mood, especially during the summer months. You'll get to know the recreation area Heerenlaak, where two campgrounds, a marina, and a sandy beach attract many tourists. Along the Maas towards Ophoven, you will also encounter many cyclists enjoying a lovely bike ride in combination with a visit to local hospitality venues.
In the village center of Aldeneik, street names, buildings, and monuments take you back to the time when Harlindis and Relindis, daughters of Adelhard and Grinnara, performed various miracles here. They founded a monastic community and received visits from the missionary bishop Willibrordus. In 870, Harlindis and Relindis were canonized. Their relics are still venerated today and celebrated with, among other things, a procession that takes place every 25 years through the streets of Maaseik and Aldeneik.
